My ink paintings captured by Lauren Peters, 2022.

This post is inspired by my love of painting with inks and reflections from my academic research in arts-based education. I have been using high pigment artist inks since first discovering the range by Melbourne-based company, Art Spectrum in 2009 (this is not sponsored, I am just a super fan!). They can be applied to many surfaces (even textiles using a fabric medium) and have unlimited mixing capacity making them suitable for all ages and skill levels. I adore the intensity of the colours the most and they can be applied just like watercolour paints, a little palette of ink goes a long way! There is also an unexpected quality that I have observed in others over the years in community-based workshop settings that is more than just creative freedom. Older participants are often surprised by what they create and how the process and movement of mixing colour and making marks on a page to be really expressive and with many often deeply moved by the experience.
